The membrane switch serves as an interface between the device and its operator (HMI). It must undoubtedly be easy to use, durable in various environmental conditions and long-lasting. The clever choice of additional elements and materials used allows the panel to perform several functions: technical, protective, and decorative. We have successfully implemented all these functions in the client’s project, read more about it further.

The task of developing a membrane keyboard for one of our clients was challenging from the very beginning, because it was necessary to place 14 keys and 14 LEDs in the small area (approximately 2 cm x 7.5 cm on the keyboard), finding space for traces providing electrical contact. Correct trace routing should be considered in such projects to avoid problems with resistance of electrical connections and short circuits.

The SILMOR team of engineers created a solution using the separation of LED and key base materials, which allowed to make more space for the traces and thus increase the reliability and conductivity of the connections.

A significant improvement for the end user was the placement of protruding keys, i.e., buttons with relief, on the graphical layer, which allows you to make the press more noticeable, especially in the case of such compact keyboards. The tactile elements included in the membrane switch provide the operator with feedback that the key has been pressed.

SILMOR:

●       offers a complete membrane switch development cycle: from engineering and design creation to production,
